“Raising taxes will help the economy, not hurt it!” “Those greedy rich business owners need to pay their fair share!” Never-ending mantras spewed by the Left.
If taxes are so great and don’t hinder business’s ability to expand and hire more people, then why is New York, a state with some of the highest taxes on the planet, advertising that if you start a new business or expand your current business there, you can operate tax-free for 10 years? Why would this advertisement for no taxes include “create new jobs and contribute to the economic development of the local community” if more taxes is the answer to economic woes? Hmmm.
Start-Up NY is a program that has been around for a couple of years. I used to see the commercials every now and then, but recently I’ve noticed the ads much more frequently. It’s a great incentive. In typical liberal fashion, however, not all businesses are eligible. Only ones New York has deemed worthy and don’t need to pay their fair share can take advantage of the program. If you own a business in one of the following fields, it seems you can afford to create jobs, expand, and contribute to the economic development of the local community while still paying all the taxes.
Retail and wholesale businesses
Restaurants
Law and accounting firms
Medical or dental practices
Real estate management companies/brokers
Hospitality
Retail banking
Utilities and energy production
The state is largely targeting manufacturing and technology businesses with this incentive. Gosh, are they inadvertently admitting that higher taxes has led to a decrease of businesses in these areas?
