Earlier today as other Washington legislators gathered on the Capitol lawn to hold a somber prayer vigil for the victims of the shooting in Charleston, United States Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders provided supportive background shouting about pension security.
Before that, Sanders made a statement about the violence that took place in South Carolina:
The Charleston church killings are a tragic reminder of the ugly stain of racism that still taints our nation. pic.twitter.com/3R4zKLqq2q

But not much later, via the Hill…
More than a dozen lawmakers gathered on the Capitol lawn Thursday to pray for victims of a South Carolina shooting that left nine people dead…
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who is running [for] president, held a rally for bolstering retiree pensions nearby at the same time of Scott’s event, with chants from the event at times overpowering speakers at the prayer circle.
Other journalists noted the disruption.

Such a considerate, thoughtful-looking fellow.
A Buzzfeed reporter felt it was necessary to point out that Sen. Sanders was only doing what he planned to do well before those selfish mourners got all up in his business.
i asked @SenSanders office about pension event @MattLaslo reported on today (https://t.co/QWDsTIC0Sg). Response: pic.twitter.com/jJlJTqlcCV

The text in the tweet’s attachment read, “It was a news conference not a rally. It had been scheduled for days in the space reserved. It began at 11:30 am and ended a few minutes past noon.”
@EvanMcSan @SenSanders don't signs and chants of "Bernie, Bernie, Bernie, etc." equal a rally? or am I outta touch with @OxfordWords

A few folks, like one Daily Kos diarist, came down with some major unbalanced vapors over this blatant conspiracy by the Bernie-phobic media. I won’t connect to Kos’ site here, but let’s just say there was a great deal of sentences in bold and capital letters, along with seemingly random and unrelated tweets by people who love them some extra-crispy, Vermont-fried Col.(lectivist) Sanders.
Sanders’s rally may have taken place before the vigil, but even though Sanders planned it in advance, he could have easily cut it short, postponed it, or cancelled it. He didn’t.
If Cruz or Rubio held a rally on securing the borders or something of the sort, braying over loudspeakers while this vigil was going on, the earth would have ripped asunder. Demonspawn brandishing voice recorders, notepads, press badges, and pitchforks would have soared from the crevices, screeching their ungodly fury before pouncing on the man. After rending him limb from limb, they would have set the grounds on fire and burned the Capitol building to the ground, just so we all wouldn’t forget what that inhuman racist Republican presidential candidate who wouldn’t shut his yapper had done as a nation mourned.
So spare us that Sanders-so-did-not-distract-from-that-prayer-vigil-you-people-exclamation-exclamation-exclamation bullcrap. A Republican running for the presidency would have been shown no mercy if he had done the same.
