J. Russell George, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, is set to testify in front of the House Oversight Committee Thursday regarding his investigation into the lost Lois Lerner emails and the direct targeting and delaying of the applications of TEA Party groups who filed for tax exempt status leading up to the 2012 presidential election. His investigation has turned up information that 422 backup email tapes containing up to 24,000 emails, most likely including Lois Lerner emails, were erased AFTER a 2013 directive from the agency’s chief technology officer to stop the destruction of email backup tapes, according to The Associated Press. But they didn’t do it to cover anything up, you guys. It was just an oopsie!
The administration has repeatedly stated there’s nothing to see here folks and this is just yet another right-wing conspiracy theory manufactured to make Obama look bad, even though Lerner admitted to the extra scrutiny being given to TEA Party applicants. And the IRS is totally not hiding anything or impeding the investigation into the “lost” emails. And it seems this AP reporter agrees since his article includes:
The revelation is likely to fuel conspiracy theories among conservatives who say the IRS has obstructed investigations into the scandal.
So ignore this, okay you rubes? Move along now. Not a smidgen of corruption.
