This is it. Our first State of the Union open thread, and the last time–hopefully–that Americans have to see and hear this man speak from the U.S. House Chamber podium. Vice President Joe Biden and House Speaker Paul Ryan will be seated behind him. The dog-and-pony show starts at 9pm Eastern Time, 8pm Central. That’s two hours from the time of this posting.
Barack and Michelle’s special guests are a Syrian refugee, a gay rights activist, and a Mexican immigrant. Also among their guests are a partner of a man who was killed in the San Bernardino terrorist attack, Paris train hero Staff Sgt. Spencer Stone, a couple of supporters from his first presidential campaign, the CEO of Microsoft, and an empty chair. The White House says it’s supposed to represent the victims of gun violence, but some might be reminded of another time when an empty chair was featured.
There may also be a cameo from a county clerk by the name of Kim Davis, but the member of Congress who invited her has been kept a secret.
Along with the agendas related to the people Obama invited, expect him to talk about how he saved Detroit’s uninsured students from global climate changery. Could there be a “Cash for Clunkers” reference? Gosh, I hope so. I bet he directs some sarcasm toward his critics. Such is the trait of all great world leaders.
Here’s an open thread where you’ll have plenty of time to comment between rapturous standing ovations by Obama’s Democrat sycophants in Congress. Drink every time he mentions Lou Pole, carbon, and for our kids.
