A Little Break From Politics: Women, STOP WHINING!

I’m really really really sick and tired of whiny women. Especially when they consider themselves feminists. I’m sick of hearing how evil men are and how men are to blame for all women’s problems.

Today’s whining is about women’s “burden” in healthy pregnancies. After thousands of studies on the issue, women are constantly told to live healthy lifestyles prior to conception and during pregnancy–eat healthy, no smoking, no drinking, lower stress, biological clock watch, etc. That the “burden” to get this “whole pregnancy thing right” rests on the shoulders of the mother. But men aren’t told the same thing. And that’s not fair!

There are studies that show the age of men impacts the quality of their sperm and can cause problems for the baby. There are studies that show alcohol harms sperm. I could keep going and show you studies on healthy diets and smoking as they relate to sperm quality, but I think there’s a limit to how many times one should use the word “sperm” in a paragraph on a political blog.

The article I linked mentions all of these studies but the author’s main beef is that we don’t talk about it. Everyone is sexist when it comes to this issue because we only talk about what women should and shouldn’t do. Why are you always hounding women? Go hound some men for a change! Because I’m such a whiny baby and just can’t handle it!

“It’s not just about women anymore, it’s about you, too,” fertility advocate Madsen added, speaking to the Times. “It takes two to make a baby, and men who one day want to become fathers need to wake up, read what’s out there and take responsibility.”

That’s all true, but we could be doing a lot more to ensure the information men need is widely available. Most women, whether they want to have kids or not, have been inundated for decades with messages about what they should and shouldn’t be doing before and after pregnancy. Direct some of those messages to men. Women don’t make healthy babies on their own.

Does she need the media and doctors to inundate her with this information in order for her to know it or understand it? Do other women? Do men? Seems to me that women who aren’t talking to the partner they chose to father their children about these things, aren’t really strong women, they aren’t feminists, and they aren’t advocating for the health of their children.

So to answer the whiny author’s question of why do the men get to drink, smoke, and party like a rock star until they are 80 but the women do not? Well, they don’t. If you think they can and it won’t damage their sperm, you are wrong. And if you need someone to tell you this to know it, well, you’re an idiot.

Men are not magical creatures whose bodies aren’t adversely affected by tobacco, alcohol, stress, diet, and age.
