As most of you know, I serve as an Elder for my church. If you were here on Thursday, you know I had a Session meeting that night. And if you were around later that night, after my meeting, I went on a little mini rant because of that meeting. One of my ranting points was the Session’s discussion regarding the baptism of children (or grandchildren) of non-members of our church.
We have non-members asking that we baptize their children quite often. Now of course, when you have your child baptized, in theory you will attend that church and the kids will go to Sunday School and all that. But, life is tricky, and things don’t always work out that way.
We have some Session members who really don’t think we should baptize the kids of people who don’t attend our church regularly. We have others who feel if someone comes to us asking for baptism, we should welcome them, and be there for them if they ever decide it’s time to go to church.
I’m curious what you guys think.
