I came across one article yesterday of a journalist having an emotional breakdown over many of Trump’s cabinet picks being people who dislike big government. I laughed it away because it was written as a tearful letter to all the writer’s Facebook friends who voted for Trump as to why he was unfriending them. I’m sure they were heartbroken.
But then I came across an article from a political correspondent with the same ohmigawd-what-is-he-doing-picking-anti-big-government-people-to-run-the-government????!!explodyheadtimeseleventyfreakout!!11
Jamelle Bouie, Slate’s chief political correspondent goes into great detail over many of Donald Trump’s cabinet choices and how they are against big government. He calls it “Trump’s Ungovernment.” Cute headline-not a real word though and the web address includes “Trump is building an ungovernment and his supporters won’t care.”
Let’s assume for a moment that Donald Trump has indeed become a Republican. Wouldn’t his supporters rally behind “ungovernment” types? Wouldn’t these picks encourage the Never Trump conservatives? Or does a chief political correspondent not understand what the Republican party and conservatives stand for? SMALL GOVERNMENT!! Or UNGOVERNMENT as Mr. Bouie puts it.
The American people care about jobs. Sure we care about social issues as well, but it’s kind of hard to worry about paper or plastic if we can’t afford to put groceries into the bag. Smaller government in the form of less regulations and red tape for businesses equals more jobs.
If appointing people to head government departments who want cut the size of those departments, or dismantle them altogether is ungovernment, then by all means Mr. Trump, ungovernment to your heart’s content.
