I present you an article that shows the war within a Liberal’s mind as they try to cope with a Trump Presidency and what course of action they should take to resist Trump, “Trump Fascism”, and Trump supporters. He covers both sides of the turmoil and tries to stay in the middle road of being “undecided”. However as you read the opinion piece, you can infer that is not the case. Without further introduction, I present you the article for you to read and my own thoughts with “choice” quotes picked out as examples.
“I love America. It’s Americans I hate.”
“The public is a swarm of hostile morons, I told her. You don’t need to make them understand you; you just need to defeat them, or wait for them die”
-Right away we have the author’s personal opinion of “non-Liberals”. It is immediately clear there is no reason for Unity, but to either dominate the opposition and/or wait for them to die. Amusing thought as it would appear we are not the ones “dying” off when you look at the state maps and not “National Popular Vote”, but that logic is confusing apparently.
“A lot of chastened liberals are telling each other that we need to really listen to the plaints of Trump voters, to try to understand them”
-Yes there are some calling to reach out and reason with those that were once Democrats that voted Trump because they rejected Clinton. Clearly as we will see this “author” fails to understand.
“The time for civil discourse and debate is over, they say; the only course left now is resistance”
“A few of us are talking, after a couple drinks, about buying guns; if it comes to a fascist state or civil war, we figure, we don’t want the red states to be the only ones armed.”
-So from this paragraph we see that Liberals have come unhinged and believe war is possible. They believe they are under attack and there will be a huge uprising of Trump based fascism. Just recall it’s the Trump voters that only fell for “Fake News” while you can clearly see they have devoured the Fake News willingly and refuse to look outside of their bubble to see the facts. Instead they want to do the opposite and become “Hostile.” This is what this Liberal is struggling with: the desire to give into militancy because Trump supporters are Evil and cannot be reasoned with logic only brute force.
“Like a lot of people, I’m still trying to figure out what policy to adopt, and what marginal role I can play, in the incoming dystopia.”
-Now we see that he is going to present his own thoughts after engaging the idea of militancy and resisting Trump and supporters with force, even though it is not directly stated. The implications of purchasing fire arms to “protect” themselves from “Trump Fascism” are strong indicators of how this mindset intends to “resist”. Now we will see why such “resistance” is in fact justified according to a “Liberal opinion” he presents.
“There’s a case to be made that it’s indefensible; that his supporters have forfeited any right to be respected or taken seriously.”
-“Some” Liberals view Trump supporters as inherently Evil, even those that voted for him not really wanting him but rejecting Clinton. Essentially by voting Trump or not voting Clinton, you are now the Enemy. Thus it would be acceptable to “resist” the growing surge of evil “Trump Fascism”. This is his first “thought” to his inner plight of how to handle a Trump Presidency, essentially weighing up the option of going “militant”. Now we will see the other “struggle” the Liberal is having, the fact he calls himself “nice” and wants to remain “nice”.
“I recently sent a text to the former woman, letting her know I wasn’t going to meet her for dinner while she was in town because I considered her vote for Trump unconscionable”
-He admits he is rejecting the two Trump friends he has and then suddenly feels guilty because he is being a bad friend and letting politics get in the way. Do we have a light bulb moment? That not everyone who voted Trump 100% agrees with Trump or are exactly who “they” say Trump supporters are?
“There comes a time when civility in the face of barbarism is folly. (It wasn’t the example of our good manners that defeated fascism or abolished slavery.):”
-For the most part you can see that the author wants to remain civil with Trump voters and to live with them as “neighbors”, but he comes back to the other side of his “inner predicament”. Justifying it by reasoning Trump supporters are “barbarians” and even references the Civil War. He does not want to appear “militant” yet as we can see, he is not above it.
“There no longer seems to be any consensual definition of “America.”
-30 states out of 50 voted for Donald Trump and rejected Obama’s 3rd Term, Hillary Clinton and Democrats lost more ground in Congress and State Legislation. So yeah, you keep telling yourself that those living in the Liberal Bubble world of coastal cities have the “popular” mindset. Sorry cupcake, no matter how much you believe in Hollyweird and main stream media, your culture is not the “popular” culture.
“I don’t know whether there’s still time for negotiations”
-He flips himself and says it will be the Trump supporters that will ignite this so-called “war” and that as Liberals they need to be prepared and ready. Immediately he is projecting the concept that Trump will round up all Mexicans, blacks, Muslims, etc or other crazy conspiracy theories that would spark a war. This is his secret hope that Trump supporters will start the “war” so they can feel “justified” in “fighting back”. Of course you would have to ignore that earlier in the article the author states he plans to resist Trump, which could mean protests and other forms of activism. We have seen which group of “activists” cause the most trouble time and time again.
“Such are the thin fingerholds we have to cling to as we contemplate the daunting ascent, by excruciating inches, up the sheer thousand-foot face of our incomprehension.”
-That’s the final piece. Essentially he hates Trump supporters but wants to hide that hate behind a mask of civility and try to convince 62 million Americans that their vote was in fact wrong and evil. It is his internal struggle that he remain “nice” but does not know for how long he can handle this being “nice”.
This article shows you the mindset of a Liberal and how they are coping with rejection for the first time in eight years. It’s interesting to note that he is personally struggling with just how far he should go in resisting Trump and the evil Trump policies. He claims he wants to remain civil, but the fact he is toying with the idea of Militancy is made apparent. If this mindset is commonly shared, the next four years are going to be a “Trial by Fire” for America and her citizens.
