Communion of Saints is a Catholic doctrine that connects believers in the past, believers still alive, and those yet unborn.
This is completely irrational. Why would you feel a connection to those long-dead and to future generations? But I do. I feel a strong attachment to my ancestors, and I wish to bequest a better future to those yet unborn.
I think this is a hallmark of conservative thinking. Feeling a strong attachment to the past, and a duty to the future pretty much spells ‘conservative’.
So, what say you? Do you feel attached to the past and beholden to the future as I do? Or are you a live-in-the-present kind of person?
