Jaelene Hinkle is an exceptional soccer player. A quick and powerful defender, she’s the best player in the United States player pool at her position. But she’s not being called to the national team, and will likely miss out on next summer’s World Cup. Jaelene holds traditional Christian beliefs about homosexuality and marriage, won’t be silent about it, and that’s enough in 21st century America to make you a target of discrimination.
The story was this: not long ago she called to the national team for a series of friendlies. She declined the call up, because the team would be wearing the ‘rainbow-flag’ uniforms in honor of the gay pride month. Coach Jill Ellis didn’t make a fuss about it at the time.
Jaelene, already the best left back in the country, went into an exceptional batch of form. She became an even better player. By ability and form she should be starting in the team, but was not even in it. Eventually she was called again, but was dismissed from camp under suspicious circumstances.
It looks like Ms. Hinkle is being blackballed for her religious and political beliefs. What is alleged in the Colin Kaepernick case, is almost certainly occurring here, and yet we don’t hear a word from the alleged defenders of freedom. Holding ‘outdated’ beliefs—orthodox Christian beliefs—is enough to make you unfit to represent your country.
The Jaelene Hinkle situation is yet another warning. When it comes to the culture war, liberals are for our scalps. Whenever they take over an institution, they use its power to push their agenda and discriminate against conservatives. In the culture war, liberals are the usual aggressors, and they paint themselves victims. Observant Christians should take note.
