Hello you crazy FRians??! What day is it? I work from home these days so I can’t remember. Lol
Today’s post comes to us from Rey!! Thanks so much!!!
We are living in a time where our very own local and state governments are disregarding and trampling our liberty, our freedoms, and we are allowing it. All under the guise of safety, security and health. The argument for such measures is valid. But the argument that the very rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights can be usurped without consequence is troubling.
Recently, Rhode Island governor instructed law enforcement to identify those entering her state from New York, and if need be, quarantine them. In Los Angeles, the mayor threatened to turn off electricity and water to non-essential businesses that remained open. In Virginia it is now a crime for more than 10 people to congregate in a church. Mind you, no mention of mosque or synagogue. But, I’ll leave it at that.
Closer to home, a Florida judge suspended bail process for anyone suspected of being infected; they are to remain incarcerated. Not much thought of consequences given to this call, you know, the deputies and civilian jailers. But hey, it sounds good; it’s for our own good. Monroe County (the Keys and Key West) established a checkpoint allowing no one but residents to enter. Ah, yes. The rule of law. Do as I say, if not you get arrested.
A bit of inside information on checkpoints as it relates to DUIs. Under Florida law, a DUI checkpoint must be announced by the participating police department, a week in advance, be it radio, social media, local newspaper. An established checkpoint must include a “smart sign” or lit information sign that there is a checkpoint ahead. The smart sign must be placed in a location where drivers have access to detour and avoid the checkpoint. And finally, rules of engagement: you can’t stop everyone. There must be a written procedure as to who will be stopped and questioned; every black car, every white car, every 5th car. That, my friends, is how it is done. And you know, for sure, DUI attorneys had something to do with such legislation.
How many other constitutional rights are simply discarded when it comes to a pandemic? And I say a pandemic not nearly as critical as is the common flu. Sure, we can discuss and argue, but the facts are facts.
I’ve mentioned no particular political party. Both are destroying our very freedoms. In saying and doing “look, this is because we are doing what’s right for us” we have given away the very foundation of what makes us a great Country. And what happened to our personal responsibility? Oh, wait, the government will tell me what I have to do. What is happening now may very well be instituted in the future for escaped monkeys from a zoo, a locust event, a fuel shortage.
I won’t minimize the importance of tackling this Chinese virus. God bless our doctors, nurses, first responders and military. But rest assured, our very freedoms and liberty are being yanked from us while most people are “hey, looketh over there.”
